In this project, a family memorial hall from the late Qing dynasty is converted into a mix-use program consisting of a gallery space and a cafe. The design proposes a strategy in which a light-steel structure is inserted in between the existing wooden structures, forming a central courtyard space that can be shared by all.

The gallery space will take up the generous corridor space and the hall in the back. A second entry from the back is created for the exclusive use of the gallery. Along the side where the corridor faces the courtyard, expandable doors are laid out to form the enclosure, making it possible to open the interior space wide up on any fine days or during summer events. If one enters from the main entry, he will also be able to get a glimpse of the courtyard through the modern, transparent cafe space as he sits at the bar.
